INDIE AUTHOR SUNDAY
Fresh Blood: 5 Indie Books to Put on Your Radar
Five indie books. Five authors worth knowing. This week’s Indie Author Sunday is all about the strange, unsettling, and unforgettable stories waiting beyond the bestseller lists.
Your next favorite book might be one you haven’t heard of yet.
Indie Author Sunday is where The Uncanny Collective makes a little more room on the shelf for independent authors and the stories they’re putting into the world. Each week, I’m highlighting books that caught my attention, whether they’re unsettling, strange, dark, genre-bending, or simply too interesting not to share. Here are this week’s five books worth putting on your radar.

HORROR · SPLATTERPUNK
Sacred Sins: A Splatterpunk Novella
ABOUT THE BOOK
Bella fought tooth and nail to be a head counselor at a camp for the wealthy. Just try not to let their cannibalistic cultish behavior get to you... Things change during her third year, when she meets a mysterious new girl who seems to know more than she should. As the camp's dark secrets unravel, Bella's horrifying nightmares worsen and threaten to become reality. Will she be able to survive another summer? And at what cost?
WHY WE'RE FEATURING IT
Cannibalistic camp secrets, feminine wrath, and full-throttle splatterpunk? Sacred Sins immediately stood out as the kind of bloody, boundary-pushing indie horror we want more eyes on.

HORROR · THRILLER
First Kills
ABOUT THE BOOK
Isabella Facia, a young artist, is tricked and attacked in Central Park. To save her, Adam Lewis turns into something totally new. Adam uses his power and hunger to right the wrongs of the world. Will Isabella join him? And what about her mother in prison?
WHY WE'RE FEATURING IT
Vampires hunting monsters in the dangerous underworld of 1980s New York immediately caught our attention. First Kills pairs supernatural horror with questions of faith, vengeance, and morality, asking what happens when becoming a monster might be the only way to fight one.

HORROR
Consuming Darkness
ABOUT THE BOOK
A nightmare has arrived in the small town of Langston, Ohio. It is not of this planet, nor is it the deadly creation of Man. It moves under the cover of darkness with an insatiable taste for human flesh, leaving a scene of gut-wrenching horror in its wake. It is not anything that human eyes have ever seen, and it strikes fear into the hearts of those who witness its presence. The first three bodies were found by the train station outside of town, and from there on, the nightmare only grew worse. As the slaughter continues, more bodies begin to pile up. In the span of three hours one summer night, Sheriff Bruce Morrison will be one small town’s last chance to stop this creature and end its body count before it’s too late.
WHY WE'RE FEATURING IT
A creature no one can explain, a rapidly rising body count, and only three hours to stop the slaughter? This one caught our attention with its small-town setting, relentless creature-feature premise, and race-against-the-clock setup that sounds like pure late-night horror.

HORROR · FANTASY
Southwest Gothic: The Harvesting Angel of the Plains
ABOUT THE BOOK
Uncovering why local legends were vanishing was supposed to save the Desert Southwest. Instead, Macarthy Black just succeeded in getting an ancient monster’s undivided, murderous attention. Now with a target on her back, Macarthy is forced into cahoots with the absolute last three people she’d ever choose: a weather-whispering, closet necromancer; a razor-witted librarian and cleric; and a dangerously charming stranger with arcane power. Sparks fly, tempers flare, and nobody trusts anybody. But with a world-altering Reaping on the horizon, this disaster of a makeshift coven will have to pull it together—or watch the whole world turn to dust.
WHY WE'RE FEATURING IT
An ancient monster, disappearing local legends, and a makeshift coven where nobody trusts anybody? This one caught our attention with its Desert Southwest setting, supernatural mystery, and wonderfully chaotic group of unlikely allies forced to work together before the world quite literally turns to dust.
CONTENT WARNINGS
Violence, abandonment, betrayal, on-screen death, mild transphobia.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Book one of the Cairnshore Tides Trilogy. A missing woman, a cursed village and a secret that should never surface. When Georgette goes missing her partner tracks her down to the coastal village of Cairnshore where the locals don't like strangers and the sea hums with hunger.
WHY WE'RE FEATURING IT
A missing woman, an isolated coastal village, and a sea that seems hungry? This one caught our attention with its eerie seaside setting and promise of buried secrets, hostile locals, and something ancient lurking beneath the surface.
